Gitanjali group created the bat and the ball to mark twenty-five years of India’s cricketing glory, and to commemorate the 1983 World Cup win. “We are glad to be associated with this magnificent game that is the singular most unifying force in a diverse country like India,” said Chairman of Gitanjali Group Mehul Choksi.
The bat has been autographed by members of the 1983 World Cup winning team and is embellished with 25-carat diamonds while the diamond studded ball is a fine blend of 82.2gms of gold and 30cts diamond. The cricket ball is encrusted with about 6000 diamonds and is estimated to be worth Rs30 lakh. The combined value of the bat and ball is valued around Rs75 lakh. “The cricket bat is our way of saluting the legends that brought the country its first and only World Cup glory,” Choksi said. The bejeweled bat and ball will be auctioned in London by July-end. The proceeds from the auction will be presented equally to all the 15 members of the 1983 winning team.
