Indian gems and jewellery exports is up by about 16% for the period of April-August 2008. The total exports are estimated to be at Rs372bn as compared to Rs320bn in same period of previous year. According to a data released by Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) Indian exports of cut and polished diamonds for the period of April-August 2008 is up by about 22% at Rs271bn as compared to Rs222bn in the same period previous year.
The total exports of Rough Diamonds for the same period constituted for Rs16bn as against Rs9bn, it has increased by about 74%.
The gold jewellery exports have recorded a decline by over 4% to Rs77bn as compared to Rs81bn for the same period last year.
Interestingly the colored gemstones exports have recorded a whopping growth of 20% estimated to at Rs5bn.
