Tanvir Choksi, Chairman of Indian Institute of Gems and Jewellery (IIGJ) passed away on 18 August at the age of 61. "Tanvir Choksi's untimely death is a huge shock to the industry. He was the most non-controversial person and a huge asset to the gems and jewellery industry," said Sanjay Kothari, Chairman, Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC).
Choksi had been the Chairman of IIGJ since its inception in the year 2003. He had also been the Treasurer of Mumbai Diamond Merchant Association and was an actively involved member of Diamond India Ltd.
Choksi had really worked hard and had given huge contributions in building up of the IIGJ and had always been very instrumental in the educational part, he had made it possible for IIGJ to be a full fledged institute which is today considered to be the benchmark for the other such institutes in the country, Kothari said.
